NFS Problem

Postby BonzenPaule » Thu Oct 28, 2010 11:16 am

Hi folks! At first: Thank you b-rad for your awesome firmware. I am using it for a while on my g2 now and its just great. Thank you for your work. :)

But now i got a question and i hope its not a double post but i searched the forum for a while now and found no answer for my problem.
Here we go ;)
Like i said i got a WDTV G2 with 0.4.3.2 firmware. I am trying to get nfs working but my wdtv cant see any media in the shared folder.
Samba share works fine. I can see all folder and files and i can play all files. But when i share a folder via nfs, just the shared "root folder" shows up and when i want to enter it the wdtv says that there is no media in this folder. It seems that my nfs is working because i can see the shared folder but like i said i cant enter it. I am using Windows server 2003r2 as server and got a DLink DWA 140 WiFi Stick.
My net.mounts:
xmount "//192.168.0.34/Movies" "Movies" cifs "user=***,pass=***"
(working fine)
xmount 192.168.1.111:/Movies NFS-1 nfs
(not working, i can see "NFS-1" on my WDTV but when i click enter it says "there is no media in the current folder")
My movies are in:"C:/Movies/fantasy/avatar/avatar.mkv" for example.

Anyone please help me ;)
Friendly regards

the following command shows you NFS exports that are available to you:
Code: Select all
showmount -e ip

after you execute your NFS xmount what does this say:
Code: Select all
ls -la /tmp/media/usb/NFS-1

Wow thanks for your fast reply. I'm beginning to love you ;) (just kidding :P)
How do i use this "showmount" ? with telnet? I'm sorry but i'm a linux noob :D
Do i have to install something called "ssh" ? I tryied telnet but i just got a "clnet_create:RPC unknown host"
I change nothing so far. The login still is root:blank

Thanks

Use telnet and set SSH password

general tips/info for when using telnet/ssh

if you expect further help then you need to say exactly what you're trying to execute and exactly what is returned. I do not play the guessing game.

Okay i did what you said.
I used ssh secure shell and entered my wdtv:
"SSH Secure Shell 3.2.9 (Build 283)
Copyright (c) 2000-2003 SSH Communications Security Corp - http://www.ssh.com/

This copy of SSH Secure Shell is a non-commercial version.
This version does not include PKI and PKCS #11 functionality.

Export list for 192.168.1.111:
/Store (everyone)
#

store is the folder with my movie files i want to share with my WDTV. "192.168.1.111" is my server with the files. I hope its enough intel for you. Dont want to make you angry ;)

why are you entering 'Movies' in:
Code: Select all
xmount 192.168.1.111:/Movies NFS-1 nfs

when your share is:
Code: Select all
/Store

;)

ok sorry i should have explained it properly...
i tried a few settings and both dont work movies and store. i shared the folder store via nfs on windows and i mounted it on my net.mounts
sorry for that :( net.mounts is now "xmount 192.168.1.111:/Store NFS-1 nfs" sorry! my bad..............

Okay I'm summing up my problem so maybe you can see it. I try to give you all.
net.mounts:
xmount 192.168.1.111:/Store NFS-1 nfs

showmount -e 192.168.1.111:
Export list for 192.168.1.111:
/Store (everyone)

samba is working fine. But with nfs i just see the "NFS-1" folder but i cant enter it on the WDTV.

Oh i forgot this one...

1.01.77_WDLXTV.COM_WDLXTV_G2-0.4.3.2
# showmount -e 192.168.1.111
Export list for 192.168.1.111:
/Store (everyone)
# ls -la /tmp/media/usb/NFS-1
-sh: ls: not found
#

this is coming back, when i execute your command. xmount is:

#Mount an NFS share
xmount 192.168.1.111:/Store NFS-1 nfs

does that mean that my wdtv got no rights to open this folder? i allowed anonymous share and root access. Anonymous UID and GID are set to "-2".

if ls doesn't work for you then you have some other underlying problem.

you do know that xmounts require a device plugged in locally as dictated in the README, right?
