When will firmware be added to support the new WDTV Live Streaming Gen 3 Model WDBHG70000NBK ?
New to the forum and live streaming TV.
Was involved for years with Satellite TV but left that space about 7 years ago.
Looking for to learning but I'll need help in the beginning.

Probably never. As mentioned a couple of times, a larger part of this new device firmware is encrypted, so we can't do much with it.

I been reading the forum for about a week as a guest an never read the new Gen 3 unit has encrypted firmware.
I bought the new unit 3 days ago on Amazon.

As a suggestion, on the main page in Wiki under Compatibility you might want to state that.
There have been 55 views this afternoon on my question so I think many people are not aware of this.
Might be all newbies like me.

Not supported devices are:

• WDTV Mini
• WDTV Live Hub (Model number WDBABZ0010BBK, WDBACA0010BBK)
• WDTV Live Streaming (aka Gen 3) (Model number WDBHG70000NBK, WDBGXT0000NBK)

It was already added to the wiki as not supported a few days after it was released. Maybe it wasn't underlined or very clearly marked.
Anyway, new buyers should search for a firmware for that particular model before buying the box, just to be sure it is supported (or ask on the forum for the nth time)

Only three days ago I said "probably never" in this very thread. Why, is "never" suddenly only three days later?

I also read that wd locks some online services, if you try custom firmware. Who cares?

There is so many stupid thing in gen3.
No volume control. how i can adjust volume with active speaker?
Can't select individual folders from samba. Now i see all my shared stuff in music, video and picture tabs.

"Probably" is in case WD left any security hole that would allow us to slip through a backdoor, but that's not even being targeted right now.
