it would have to be done by WD
just checked WD's web site and they inform that the latest FW is 1.06.15_V with previous versions 1.05.04_V and also 1.03.49_V, so now I guess I got a glimpse on how this homebrew thing seems to work.
looks like you guys take a new WD original FW upgrade and create a homebrew for it.
in case of 1.05.04_V you issues homebrew version 0.5.1.1
in case of 1.03.49_V that was 0.4.5.3
between 1.03.49_V and 1.05.04_V there were the WD original versions 1.04.10, .17, .22 and .31 for which apparently no homebrew was created.
so does the new WD original FW 1.06.15_V lead to a new homebrew version? it should as one of the issues resolved with the new FW reads:
• Resolved issue where MPEG2 video lags or freezes.
this seems to be exactly what I'm experiencing.
here's the link to the new WD FW 'resolved issues':

a final question: can I upgrade my player to the original recent WD FW release 1.06.15_V and then again flash homebrew version 0.5.1.1? or would this lead to a disaster?
