1.05.04_0.5.1.1-WDLXTV-Live, system freeze while playback

Postby Rock » Mon Oct 31, 2011 1:40 pm

I stream my movies over NFS to my Live box. While playing back a movie, the system seems to freeze - it still plays back the movie but OSD freezes and remote inputs are ignored.
SSH and Webfrontend work like always.

Here is the last dmesg output:

The version is definitely 1.0.5.04, home dir is empty.

ps shows this:
Code: Select all
1995 root      100m S    MediaLogic AV MSGL_FATAL
2000 root     12480 S    DMARender
2004 root     28624 S    MediaLogic_PIC PC MSGL_FATAL

Seems like the fatal message shouldn´t be.
Thx for any help

The MSGL_FATAL strings are normal, don't worry about them. People who have reported this freezing, usually reported it was fine once they turned off Autores in their firmware. Give it a try.

Cheers for that! Flashed WDLXTV fw for the first time yesteday just to discover today that videos are freezing when playing. Scoured the FAQs etc. before finding this, and then had to search what is autores and how to disable it. Anyway everything is working now great, really nice improvement over stock, very excited about the possibilities!

Just one question:
Anyone knows why the autores works fine with official fw and not with WDLXTV?
It is after all a good feature that I would like to leave on.

Also, may I suggest to add the above information (that autores may cause freezes or unresponsive remote) to:
http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2803
http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Superhub

I think many people may find it useful.

Congratulations on figuring out the problem. We encourage the users to fill in the missing bits of information in the Wiki (you can use your forum account to log-in).

I'm having problems with the recent type of mp4 files since I upgraded. best case: every 5 to 10 minutes the player jumps ahead, worst case: it freezes and requires a power off/on cycle which, in my case due to some 3000+ movie sheets comes with a 25 minutes time of blinking LEDs before I can use it again.

has anyone else experienced this problem?

For that many moviesheets, switch to MSHEETDIR. See the wiki on how to do the transition.

well, guess you overread the real problem causing the power off/on cycle which is the inability of my player (and of other users as seen on the forums) to handle the recent mp4 codec.

I wonder if there's a FW that attends this problem. I don't know if my former FW might have been able to play these new mp4 files as I upgraded to the current (latest) one 1.05.04_0.5.1.1 upon your request that handles my moviesheets better (some 30% less delay when powering up)

So my immediate problem is a FW that can play the latest mp4 coded files.

any help with that is highly appreciated.

if there's new mp4 codec paramenters needing additional support, we're unable to add or change codec's
it would have to be done by WD
