So... do we have any way to extract the firmware from a running unit? I could run to BB and buy one, extract the firmware to study, and return it. I can image that WD is gonna hold off as long as they can with a firmware update to the new unit so we don't extract the netflix support and add it to the live...

You'd need to do some soldering. I'm assuming the original FW doesn't run a SSH/telnet deamon, but I've never checked, so not 100% sure ;)

Hmmm... soldering isn't a problem, but I don't have a chip reader. Shame WD doesn't like us boot off a temp drive/netboot like the custom firmwares do :)

Ideas Lab: NETFLIX streaming support
Update: Unfortuantely supporting Netflix is not possible on the current WDTV Live platform. This requires additional hardware component and content protection mechanism. We understand this is a very hot idea and we will keep this in mind for the future.

I think that DVD navigation is much bigger feature everybody would like to be transferred to the old Live.

I'm willing to put a good bottle of wine down on the bet that we'll see that in the next FW release ;)

NM I take back what I said earlier. Netflix is only for US so not good for me. And the DVD Menu is not worth the leap for me. I'll stick with my WDTV Live.

the dvd menus work great and netflix is pretty sweet. dvd menus *should* be coming to wdtv live, but its possible they won't. Netflix uses internal security with hw keys and ssl and you will not be getting it to work on wdtvl.

There is zero difference in the hw except for a few cosmetic bits...such as wdtvl+ has a battery now ;)

Nice ! Now you do have the box, do you think we should wait for the next FW release for DVD navigation ? 8-)
