New: WDTV Live Plus

Seems a new version has hit the market:

Western Digital Ideas Forum wrote:Unfortuantely supporting Netflix is not possible on the current WDTV Live platform. This requires additional hardware component and content protection mechanism. We understand this is a very hot idea and we will keep this in mind for the future.

The original WDTV Live has a sigma8655 chipset, this chip does not have copy protection capability. Netflix will NEVER come to WDTV Live. Complaining and saying 'but i know its possible!!!!!!' are not permitted and whining and arguing will get you warned/banned.

Thank you

But yeah, if they add dvd navigation to this box and not to the WDTV Live, that would be a pretty bold move IMHO.

Argh, you beat me to it. I had to register :) Here is the official link http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=832

If you look at the pics and features it looks like the exact same unit as the live just with a better firmware. I can't believe wd... What a kick in the balls for us. I just bought one of these for my dad, and now I'm pissed. I sure hope we can extract the firmware and add it to the normal units. I would have even paid wd $10 for the feature if needed... They would have made much more mo ey that way.

Just had a look at the new unified WDTV Live / Plus manual: The only difference noted there is the Netflix support. There no appendix for the DVD-navigation so maybe it will be available on both.

Hi guys.
Yeah, DVD navigation is one feature I would very appreciate on my WDTV Live. I had to recode all my DVD-Video's with Handbrake to mkv's, just to store it and watch it on WDTV Live. Now, if we had DVD Menu navigation and all, that would make my day, cause I have 30+ home made DVD's. If WD doesn't want to do it, maybe b-rad can do something about it, like extract it from the new firmware. Maybe we can put that in the Feature request forum?

Yeah, I'm guessing WD will release DVD navigation for us as well.

Yeah, that sux. It lookse like the exact same unit with more features. AFAIK, and by reading the specs on it, it looks like it can stream just about anything from the net....TV shows etc....

I'll keep and eye out for this and see if it's worth making the plunge for it. I can use a second unit in the house.
