Audio problem - hdmi to receiver

My Wdtv recently quit passing dts and other audio formats through over hdmi. AC3 and mp3 still work. Seems to have coincided with installing wdlxrv. If I change the audio setting to 'stereo' from 'digital pass-through' then voila, works (but in stereo of course, not 5.1).

I'm running wdlxrv 1.05.04_v, with the Wdtv through Sony home theatre receiver to tv, all over hdmi. The Wdtv is xmounted to my nas server.

Until recently I had never had any trouble with my audio. The problem may have started around the time I added the nas but I'm not completely sure. I'm confused that audio works if I switch to stereo. Is this behaviour a known problem? Any solutions?

Which firmware version were you running before updating to WDLXTV?

Hi Recliq -- I believe I was on the stock 1.06.15 firmware from wd.

I'm not sure but I think there is a bug in 1.05.04 regarding DTS passthrough on HDMI... (check 1.06 release notes if it was fixed...)

I didn't know there was a wdlxtv based on 1.06. Is that what you're saying? Or that I need to go back to the stock firmware? From the wiki I understood there had been a DTS/AC3 bug of some kind but it was resolved in an earlier iteration of the lx firmware, in April 2010 I think.

No, there is no 1.06 based WDLXTV, it's also not possible for us to fix this.
You need to either use stock 1.06 firmware or a WDLXTV firmware before 1.05.

Darn. OK, thanks for assisting me with this; I think I will try the 1.02-based lx firmware. If that doesn't resolve the issue I guess I'll live with it.

Other users solved this by using optical SPDIF for connecting the receiver and WDTV, passthrough on optical is ok afaik.
