sad to hear what happened to your box attempting to do a new cook of the latest fw, hope you can get it sorted and find a way to inject an osd into it with any worthwhile features because these homebrew custom cook fw of a aftermarket fw are great db.

Let me get this straight:

There is no firmware with working autores and ability to play mkvs with header compression, right?

With this firmware (and probably all 1.02.21 firmwares), half of the mkvs I play tend to not work, and what's worse, it requires a reboot before it will play anything after that. I just get the progress "eye" when I try to play videos after having tried to play an mkv with header compression.

Before this firmware, I was running 1.05.04 based 0.5.1.1 wdlxtv. It didn't have the same issues and played almost everything. But of course, autores and a lot of other features were missing.

I don't know which firmware to run now, which is the lesser of two evils. I guess being able to play every mkv and then manually change resolution and framerate is better than not being able to play a lot of movies at all.

With this firmware, how do you guys deal with mkv header compression?

Whit any 1.02-based firmware you can use mkvtoolnix to remove the header compression from your mkv files. It is a command-line utility that fixes this. It is not transcoding anything, so the fix doesn't take too long to apply.
There is also a shell script that can do this recursively, for a folder.

Thx, it seems to work. Although it takes quite a lot of time. Many movies take more than an hour to fix, and the longest took almost four hours! :D

I still love this firmware, though :)

For mkv header stripping you can check also this http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=6869
it will check finished torrent downloaded file and rename, move to directory and strip header compresion if needed .
for this to work you must have mkv_app or this firmware with mkv_app included.
