which firmware to install

hi, im new to firmware installing, im a bit confused with so many files to download

What i need to install is the firmware which allows to use usb-external optical drives

Any ideas?

We can't point you to the right firmware if you don't say which device you have!

All WDLXTV versions for all devices have external optical device support (this is the reason this firmware was created (hacked) in the first place).

I strongly suggest to read the Wiki, FAQ and n00b central announcement post.

hi all,
i hope this is the right thread for asking, i'm still confusing after read FAQ, wiki.
my WDTV is WDTV Live HD Media Player, start with WDBAA... current BaseFW is "1.06.15_V" (official firmware).
I just get bored and really like to try the moviesheet and also suport for USB-external DVD or blu-ray player.
the question is: which correct firmware should I flash my WDTV with that baseFW?

Hi,

I have the WDTV Live HD Media Player with the newest official firmware on it. I want to install a custom firmware mainly so I can stream online media from the internet, like streamed tv channels.
My question is which custom firmware do I have to install for that? I saw some differences listed here: http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Difference_between_BaseFW and it says that the newest, 1.05 cant use plugins? So should I install 1.02.21 for online streaming plugin?

What you are looking for are UMSP plugins which are supported in both versions. 1.05.04 doesn't support WDTVExt plugins.
Changed wiki page to state WDTVExt plugins instead of WDLXTV plugins to make this more clear.
