Gen 3 question

Postby pirecrompir » Sun Jul 13, 2014 8:07 am

Hi!

I just bought a WDTV Live Streaming (gen 3) for my parents, knowing that official wdlxtv firmware isn't supported, but that was the only model I could get on short notice as it was a present. The only thing they need apart from player's stock functionality is a torrent client, so they can download torrents to an external HD connected via USB to the player. I read in WIKI that there are firmwares that support this on gen 3, but I'm not sure what the difference is between these two:

http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8707
and
http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=7663

Which one should I use? The first one is newer and updated as I saw, supports the transmission bt client, so I think that's what I need. Am I right?

Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the answer!

I read on WIKI which steps are necessary to set up rtorrent (creating a .nmt file, rtorrent folder etc). Are these or similar steps also necessary to set up transmission in your firmware? Where could I get info on correctly preparing the external hard disk and setting up the transmission client included in your firmware?

Thanks again!

there's not much info, because it's very straight forward

go to WEC and configure transmission
start transmission
done

so there's no need to create an empty .mnt file in the root folder of the external hard disk and a specially named folder as is the case with rtorrent in the non-gen3 firmware?

thanks again for all the help!
