Black screen and 0:00:00/0:00:00

Postby pauls156 » Fri May 18, 2012 2:21 pm

Hey guys. So, I'm having some issues all of a sudden playing mkv files on several external hard drives. Basically, whenever I try to play an mkv now, it looks like it tries to play it but I get a black screen and the time bar for the video file says 0:00:00/0:00:00. I am using firmware 1.02.21-5.1.1. I'm using this version because it's needed for a particular moviesheet. This just started occurring today. Yesterday, everything worked just fine. I did NOT change anything in between yesterday and today. I tried the newest WD firmware and the files play just fine. I tried reloading from scratch 1.02.21-5.1.1 but have had no good results. VERY occasionally, I'll be able to play a file but not any more. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok, thanks. There's a lot of topics. Could you either narrow it down or just give me a quick explanation? Thanks.

Why don't you read the FAQ before posting?

FAQ wrote:Problem: Some .MKV files can't play (Live)
Answer: Known issue with the WD proprietary code which doesn't support MKV header compression
Solution: Remux your .MKV and disable Header Compression, or switch to a build based on a 1.03 or 1.04 BaseFW.

Well, that did not work. Do you have any suggestions/have any idea why it could be working one day and then not working the next?

If the same file plays one day and not the next day the file might be currupt , check the disk on windows host.

Done that. Everything is just fine. And it's not just one file. It's all mkv files.

Once you played or better tried to play a mkv with compressed headers on 1.02 nothing will play afterwards until you reboot, all known issues, all discussed on the forum in depth.

I'm just confused why it's worked just fine for the past two months, no changes were made overnight but the next day, it's stopped working...

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I have been unsuccessful at connecting to the Apache Server and I'm wondering if there's a fix other than a firmware update or fixing the mkv headers. Thanks.
