I'm so sorry for being such a noob.
But... I still can't get my head around what changes, if any, I need to make to the S00custom-options in order to use the latest firmware on my WDTV Live.

Can I just use the new Firmware as it is (in "Default" as it were) or do I need to make changes.

I have a Full-HD 1080p plasma panel so will want HD YouTube activated and also the resolution set to 1080p or Auto. I also want to be able to flash to a different screen design (Psycho's) and I will also be using standard subs size, thumnail view for pictures etc etc. I will also be using movie sheets. Other than that I guess everything else I need will be fine as it is.

Can anyone advise on what changes, if any, I need to make to the S00custom-options to use this new firmware as above (i.e. YouTube HD, screen layout design, etc etc) Thanks again and sorry for the "noob" questions.

You can still use the default settings...
the S00custom-options file is there is you want to change something, or tweek something else.

the Default values are usualy enough..

Since you are saying thatyou want to use different OSD (Psycho's), I suggest you download its latest version here and read up on that threat to know how to make it work.

Also You're saying that you want Youtube in HD, then you will need to do some change in the S00custom-options file...
Open up that file in a standard text editor and read the comments, there's a couple of settings you need to change to have Youtube HD
Also for movie sheets theres some changes you need to do to the S00custom-options files.

Reading the comments in that file will tell you wich commands needs to be set...

Thanks mate. So basically... I just delete one of the "#" in front of the "config_tool" I wish to enable. ?

For instance (to enable YouTubeHD), I delete the RED "#"...

## enable YouTube Switcher (You can only use one at a time!)
## to enable YouTube HD:
## *** youtubeHD requires setting YOUTUBE_QUALITY too ***
#config_tool -c YOUTUBE_SWITCHER=youtubeHD
## to enable EasyNews XViD proxy:
#config_tool -c YOUTUBE_SWITCHER=easynews
## to disable YouTube Switcher:
#config_tool -c YOUTUBE_SWITCHER=''

## EasyNews YouTube Switcher settings
#config_tool -c EASYNEWS_USER=user
#config_tool -c EASYNEWS_PASSWORD=password

## youtubeHD YouTube Switcher quality setting
#config_tool -c YOUTUBE_QUALITY=270P
#config_tool -c YOUTUBE_QUALITY=360P
#config_tool -c YOUTUBE_QUALITY=480P
#config_tool -c YOUTUBE_QUALITY=720P
#config_tool -c YOUTUBE_QUALITY=1080P

that's exactly what you do ;) after editing the file reboot the wdtv with the file present on connected usb drive (needs to be done only once).

Fabulous. Thanks so much for your help guys. It is appreciated.
I have been doing lots of reading and research but sadly, much of it is over my head (I'm not too knowledgeable about this sorta stuff). So your help has been very helpful and appreciated. Thanks again!

make sure the USB drive you are using is formated in FAT32, and make sure the firmware you are trying to flash is compatible with the WDTV device you have.

Also if you have another USB drive, try it, might be a problem with the USB drive...

Thanks!

So... just to clarify (I don't wanna do anything wrong and brick my WDTV Live)...

If I want to turn "OFF" the "Auto-Res" option (after I have turned it "ON") ...

I type a # in front of the config text (replacing the # I deleted to activate it) ?

OR...

Do I have to leave the # deleted and type the word "OFF" instead of "ON" behind "AUTO-RES"?

Which one is the correct way to do it?

I then re-flash the firmware. Is that all the files on the USB stick or just the altered "S000 custon-options" file?

Please confirm. Cheers!

no #
replace ON with OFF
put only S00custom-options on stick and reboot (no need to flash anything)
