You don't have to rename anything. Add the bin, fff and ver files to your USB drive, reboot and it will prompt to upgrade.

excited newbie here....I have a recently purchased unit with firmware (F/W) 1.10.13. I have not flashed with the latest F/W 1.12.x
...seems the F/W posted are for 1.05.x and below or am I reading this incorrectly? I can follow the instructions, but not sure if the consequences of doing things are reversible or not...

Please read carefully.
you have: WD TV Live Streaming Media Player (Gen 3) / Current official Firmware - 1.12.14 (10/2012)
and you are talking about: WD TV Live Media Player (gen2) / Current official Firmware - 1.06.15 (8/2011)

for gen3 please have a look here:

Are you trying to get banned or are you simply ignorant?

Hello! I'm currently at 1.06.43_V. Is it possible to install the latest WDLXTV-Live firmware? Did that downgrading could cause problems?
Thank you!

WD officially warns that you may break your device when you downgrade from 1.06.43 to 1.05.04.
However there have been reports of successful downgrades by first downgrading to earlier 1.06 firmware and then to 1.05.04.

We won't promise anything though - it's your own risk!
