WDLXTV LIVE Firmware Flashing

I tried all that was listed on the wiki or the FAQ : it's still not upgrading.

- I tried 4 different usb keys (every of these keys are working for the official updates) on the side usb port (i tried on the back port too)
- Of course my keys are FAT32 formatted
- I use the correct firmware (for my HDTV Live)
- I changed the .ver file
- I unplugged my WDTV Live instead of using the power button

But still, nothing happens. I don't get it but after 2 days of trying to install this firmware, I'm not sure if this still is a good idea ...

Start by telling us some numbers...
- model number
- actual installed firmware version
- wdlxtv version you downloaded
- what you changed in .ver file

Ok, it worked.

The problem was my actual firmware version : it was the official 1.06.15 for Western digital. I downgraded it (I had a backup of the previous official firmware) and XDLXTV has been detected.

The .ver version of XDLXTV wasn't the reason the firmware hasn't been detected because I renamed it like that :

VERSION='1.07.04_V.WDLXTV_LIVE-0.5.1.1' LOCATION='wdtvlive.bin'

So even with the 1.06.15 installed, it should have been detected (no ?).

Now I think I'll read a lot of tutorials on this forum because execpt for the new wallpaper, I can't see any difference between the official firmware and XDLXTV

Ok sorry to ask but since I installed last version for my HDTV Live I can't see any difference except the new wallpaper :

- can't go anywhere I wan't during a video
- can't see any changes in the interface
- can't see any option for ftp or rtorrent anywhere

So maybe it's really noobish but I'm not sure if it's normal (and I should spend more time on cfg the files) or if the firmware update didn't correctly work.

Is there a list of changes / a tutorial to help noobs configure their wdlxtv the way it should be ?

Most of the changes are not visible in the OSD and happen behind the scene.
Take your time to explore http://wiki.wdlxtv.com and you'll get some ideas of what this baby can do.

First thing you'll need to visit is the webend. Point your browser to http://your_wdtv_ip/ and you can do much of the configuration from there.
You can also change the OSD by installing a custom OSD (see the wiki for details). Also, you can add extra content through UMSP plugins (Video -> Media Servers -> UMSP). Regarding enhanced navigation - you will need to downgrade to 1.02 to use WDTVExt plugins like MediaNavigation) (they add lots of OSD changes).

There is a lot of information scattered around (most of it is on the forum, but the important bits are in the wiki). It will take you a while to go through it...

Going anywhere in the video depends on which version of the custom firmware you have installed. The rest you can access from the webfrontend and install UMSP plugins from there.
Depending on your firmware version you can use WDTVExt plugins and/or UMSP plugins.

Ok, thanks for your time.

I thought it'd be easier to configure (some kind of pre-configured firmware) and I realise I still have a lot to learn / do.

Don't get me wrong : I'm impressed and gratefull for all the work done for free to improve our media player
... but I'm also wondering if there's any "already customed firmware pack" so we can get an idea of all the option of the firmware, without spending 5 hours on it to configure everything ?

It is really easy to configure. Flashing is the harder thing you have to do. Once flashed, the webfrontend is as easy as clicking in a box to download a UMSP plugin and clicking another to enable it. Two seconds is all it takes. Of course you need to know what you will need to enable....that part may take you hours or days to figure out. So first step is to read the Wiki and see what the custom firmware has to offer. Then it's easy.

Ok I tried connecting to my wdtv live by typing my IP. It seems to work but now it's asking me for a login and password ... which I don't have (I tried with the login / password of my routeur but it's not working).

Is there a default password to join the wdtv ?
