WDLXTV LIVE Firmware Flashing

Hmm...So there is a few people struggling to update or change the firmware on the device.

Coincidence?...Perhaps maybe a bug in the recent firmware...(wait) Brad may get his gstring in a twist for saying this

No there isn't any bugs having to do with this in the fw and no there isn't any major issues. I read one guy who needs to un & re plug in his device to get the fw to detect, which is probably an issue with his device and/or dmaosd--not wdlxtv. I read another one who's trying to use wdtv Gen 1 fw to upgrade... and then you saying that the internet update option doesn't work, which is expected as wdlxtv.com does not offer online updates. All of these are user / equipment errors and nothing to do with wdlxtv.

I downloaded 1.02.21 from WD, stuck it on the USB, changed the .ver file to .30 and it came up with new firmware and asked me to upgrade. This is whilst I was on the 9.4 custom fm of you'rs.

Just down loaded the lastest custom FM ver 20 and changed the ver file to a higher verison and it doesn't pick it up??

It can't be hardware related if it is picking up WD's firmware.

I will try an earlier version to see if it works of the custom FW.

Any idea's folks?

I'm a little confused if I already have b-rad live custom firmware loaded, I have to reflash the firmware with the lastest WD offical firmware and then reflash again to the lastest b-rad's? If true I had no idea and I already updated my firmware to the lastest b-rad by just simply sticking it on a USB stick and clicking upgrade seem to work fine but maybe I did it wrong and I'm not captializing on the firmware full potenial! Doesn't b-rad firmware already have the lastest WD firmware incorperated in it, so why would I have to reflash it with the offical and then b-rad?

well, I got it working just fine on my WDTVLive....
also when you talk about version... please include the full version... what is "FM ver 20" ?!?
as far as i know B-rad's did not release v20... he's still at v 0.4.2.1 which is based on official v1.02.21

and since you have WD official firmware v1.02.21 installed, you need to modify the .ver so that it reads a version higher than v1.02.21
try setting it at v1.02.25 or v1.05.00

Ok I have a problem I've installed the new firmware fine. But I need to add in the std for moviesheets, ok thats fine. But when I change the version to a higher number so it can install this option I get the New firmware install option on screen, it installs everything but when it reboots it hasn't changed the version with the new option. What am I doing wrong??

What? You said that you "installed the new firmware just fine"

then you say that you need to "add in the std for moviesheets" what do you mean by that, and what version are you changing ?

To activate moviesheets you do not need to flash the firmware again... once its flashed, its flashed....
You only need to change the options in the S00custom-options file and put that in the root of a USB drive and power cycle the WDTV
to activate the options you want just remove the # symbol in front of the command...

Explanations for all commandas are in the S00custom-options file...

Apparent Hang Up Upon Installation

Hi Folks,
I just tried to flash my WDTV Live HD's stock FW from 1.02.21 to WDLXTV LIVE 0.4.2.2. I followed the instructions to the letter (I believe), but after the second reboot in step 7, when it says that it's Updating firmware and not to disconnect power or the storage device, the progress bar has not moved after about 15 minutes and remains at 0%.

The only changes that I made to S00custom-options were to set my time zone, enable the YouTube switcher for HD, changed the YouTube switcher quality setting to 1080P, and turned on the WDLXTV_CENSUS feature. I made no changes to smb.conf.

I'm not really sure what to do now. Is it hosed? Any advice will certainly be appreciated! Thanks!

you can do two things:

- format your usb stick with FAT32 using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool: http://www.chip.de/downloads/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool_23418669.html

- use another usb stick, because some usb sticks are not suitable for upgrading firmware
