Hi guys!

Although my wd is packed in a box, I still come here... :)

Anyway, after wd I bought android M6 tv box, installed Kodi and everything was great except - it had some problems with streaming from my NAS. It seems that my NAS Dlink DNS-313 is problematic in the terms of eth drivers, wd also had problems over samba so I had to make NFS share and after that all was great. Unfortunately, I can't NFS mount from the android box, so now and then I have sudden stops while watching movies from network share.

Then I installed Movian https://movian.tv/projects/movian/wiki/Features into my PS3 with CFW Ferrox 4.76, wauuuu, I was very surprised with the results. NAS stream is very fluid and everything is playable except x265. But the ease of use and interface is exceptional, skip & seek fw and back, I can understand why so many people say PS3 is a device of a decade... ;)

Off course there's a catch - the picture is somewhat worse over hdmi than with M6 or WD, I think it's a software problem and it's related to the libav http://libav.org/general.html#Video-Codecs which makes all this possible. I have to brighten the picture a little and reduce contrast a little, approx 10%.

So the search for the perfect device is still on...

you should be able to mount them within Kodi itself, I have on multiple devices, Android, PC, R Pi, etc.

I think the best way to go is a dedicated HTPC, but that's a little expensive for most folks. (I would go for at least a quad core i5 and minimum of 8GB of RAM)

I have been trying to find out what capacity external hard drives these android boxes will accept with no luck.

Is there anything in the android OS that would limit say a 5T external drive? Or would/could it be different depending on the manufacturer?

I have been trying to find out about this device... I only want to attach external drives to view and listen to my own media files... and this seems good enough.... any thoughts? thanks!

The S905 is the same SOC used in the Odroid C2. The C2 can run both Linux and Android, and at least under linux it supports GPT (HDDs > 2TB). So, it's a question of kernel support mostly that needs to be answered by the system manufacturer.
There's no hardware reason 5 TB drives shouldn't work.
At that price it's quite a bargain, although take note, it's not running at 2GHz - it's capped at 1.5GHz and 2GHz is faked by the bootloader. The Hardkernel community made some patches to get it running at 1.75GHz, but going over leads to instability (discussion here: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=23044).

However, even running at 1.5GHz it's a perfect media center (I'm using Kodi on Linux on a Odroid C2). If you just want a media center and don't mind Android, then go for it. If you want to tinker and want linux check out the C2.
