Not really. NTFS write performance is poor (and CPU intensive) because of the way the driver is written...

Obvious (and safest) solution: buy another drive, format to ext2 or ext3 and copy your files to it using a Linux box that can at least read NTFS. Also possible under Windows with a driver that can write ext2/3.

If the NTFS drive has plenty of free space, a more risky solution is a program to nondestructively resize partitions. Reduce the NTFS partition as much as you can, create or enlarge an ext2/3 partition in the remaining space, copy files. Repeat until all files are copied. gparted might do this but I haven't tried it. Partition Wizard (Windows) won't because it can't resize ext2/3 partitions.
