New to WDLXTV, zd1211?

Postby eric1905 » Tue Sep 17, 2013 9:32 am

Hi,
i have a WDTV Live SMP Gen3 since one year and unfortunally i can't flash it with wdlxtv palace because of loosing the wifi option.
Now I got a very cheap WDTV Gen1 (WDAVP00BE) and wanted to try to flash WDLXTV on this.
First thing: Is it worth all the expenditure to flash it or should I throw it in the bin?
What I mean: Will it be possible to stream media (mkv, avi, iso) to the Gen1 or to get windows shares from a nas?

And then I have an WLAN Stick (Draytek Vigor550) and googled that zd1211 supports this stick. I saw that there was a wireless package zd1211 (http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=1379.0).

So will it be possible to flash the wdlxtv and then support this stick? And where to get this package (it is now offline).

The Gen 1 is quite limited compared with later models. It can play most mkv and avi files with some caveats. I don't remember about iso files. It can't do anything with DTS audio except maybe pass it through the digital output to a receiver that can deal with it. Nor can it handle mkv files with compressed headers. If only the audio headers are compressed it will play video with no audio. If both are compressed the WDTV will hang and you won't be able to play anything until you reboot it. HeartWare's PopCorn MKV AudioConverter can convert DTS to AC3 and restore the headers.

I can't help much with wireless because I never tried that. These links might be of interest:

The final version of WDLXTV for the Gen 1 can be downloaded at:
