What you need...

Postby Phoenix » Sun Aug 07, 2011 5:28 am

Hello everybody,
I prepared this short list of files to help newbies as me to configure the WDTV gen1 in wireless.

This is what I have on my disk:

Firmware:
- WDLXTV 0.5.8.1 (great B-RAD)

Bin files:
- log-saver.app.bin (to store the logs)
- nfs.app.bin (to enable folder sharing)
- pure-ftpd.app.bin (to enable access via FTP)
- samba.app.bin (if you like samba server)
- wireless-mod-rt.app.bin (wireless connection, I was not able to use my device with wireless-mod-wdlxtv.app.bin)
I am using the usb wifi key provided with vodafone tv connect, [148f:3070] 1-2( 2.00,480m) 802.11 n WLAN/1.0
- Ethernet connection, it works without any change using D-Link DUB-E100 --> http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=133

Configuration files:
- net.config
# Network configuration file
HOST=wdtv
DHCP=yes
WLAN_CFG=RT2870STA.dat
WLAN_LOAD=rt3070sta.ko
WLAN_UP=yes
WLAN_SLEEP=1
ifconfig $MDEV up
wpa_supplicant -Bw -Dwext -i$MDEV -c/boot/wpa_supplicant.conf

- net.mounts
# Mount a NFS share, where y is the drive shared with haveWin
#xmount 192.168.0.119:/y/Films Films nfs

- RT2870STA.dat

another great resource is this one;
http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=6842.0
I used it and was able to get wireless working very quickly and painlessly
I didn't have to use the wpa_supplicant.conf file myself but whatever works easiest and quickest for you is the way to go.

Hi Phoenix,

Were you able to get samba.app.bin or nfs.app.bin configured in order to share files from your wdtv to your pc? If so can you post your configs (smb.conf and/or net.mounts respectively)?

Hi all,

This is my first time here, so excuse me if I do or say something wrong!

I have recently bought a WD MediaPlayer, and flashed it with the ** WDLXTV-0.5.8.1 ** firmware, to get network support. I found a wireless USB netwerk adapter in my room, the Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter. When I plug it in, and start the WD player, nothing happens. No light starts to flash on the adapter.

How can I fix this?

Thank you in advance

Hi luuksnijmegen and welcome to the forum!

1) do you have a gen 1?
2) is your boot disk that has your root directory and included binaries (.bin files) FAT32? (behaves better with less problems when FAT32)
3) does your boot disk name have no spaces in it?
4) what kind of driver is your wireless adaptor?
5) what wireless mod .bin file are you using? (there is an official wdlxtv one that no one seems to be using or can't figure out that is on the website, and then various other ones that I could only find available for rt drivers)
5a) if you are using the non-wdlxtv one, what is in your .dat file?
6) what is your net.config file?

Hi,

1) I dont know if it is 1st gen or 2nd...
- WD P/N: WDAVP00BE
- S/N WNT184305342

2) The boot disk is FAT32

3) It had spaces, is that bad? I will change the name to: "Bootdrive"

4) I dont know the drivers, where do i see that? USB wireless adapter: Linkysys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter.

Vendor ID and product ID:
USB\VID_13B1&PID_0020&REV_0001
USB\VID_13B1&PID_0020

I found this also:
Windows\System32\DRIVERS\netr7364.sys
Windows\System32\drivers\vwifibus.sys
Windows\System32\RaCoInstx.dll

5) what i have on the root of the usb drive:
wireless-mod-rt.app (dont know if it is the wdlxtv version?) EDIT: I see i use the wrong version... I see the WDLXTV version online, I will try it with that version!
samba.app
RT2870STA.dat
net.mounts
net.config
log-saver.app
.wd_tv (folder).

5b) this is in my .dat file:

[Default]
CountryRegion=0
CountryRegionABand=7
WirelessMode=0
SSID=De Boomhut van Jaap de Aap
NetworkType=Infra
Channel=5
AuthMode=WPA2PSK
EncrypType=AES
DefaultKeyID=1
Key1Type=0
Key1Str=
Key2Type=0
Key2Str=
Key3Type=0
Key3Str=
Key4Type=0
Key4Str=
WPAPSK=Schultetest
TxBurst=0
PktAggregate=0
TurboRate=0
WmmCapable=0
AckPolicy=0;0;0;0
BGProtection=0
IEEE80211H=0
TxRate=12
RTSThreshold=2347
FragThreshold=2346
PSMode=CAM
TxPreamble=0
AdhocOfdm=0
FastRoaming=0
RoamThreshold=70

- wpa_supplicant.conf
ctrl_interface=/tmp/wpa_supplicant
network={
ssid="De Boomhut van Jaap de Aap"
# uncomment next line if your ap doesn't broadcast ssid
#scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk="Schultetest"
}

6) This is in my .net config file:

# Network configuration file
HOST=wdtv
DHCP=yes
WLAN_CFG=RT2870STA.dat
WLAN_LOAD=rt3070sta.ko
WLAN_UP=yes
WLAN_SLEEP=1
ifconfig $MDEV up
wpa_supplicant -Bw -Dwext -i$MDEV -c/boot/wpa_supplicant.conf

So what do i need to do? I will change the name of my boot drive, and use the WDXLTV version. CAn you guys and girls check my other settings?
Thank you!

Definately gen1, see WIKI

luuksnijmegen wrote:3) It had spaces, is that bad? I will change the name to: "Bootdrive"

Spaces in drive names are bad as app.bins won't load in that case (known bug). Please change to something without space(s)

luuksnijmegen wrote:4) I dont know the drivers, where do i see that? USB wireless adapter: Linkysys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter.
Vendor ID and product ID:
USB\VID_13B1&PID_0020&REV_0001
USB\VID_13B1&PID_0020

Googling the internet, it looks like 13B1:0020 uses a Ralink RT73 chipset.
Please search the WDTV forum, it should give some more info.

BTW: I would first try to get things going without all kinds of wireless security measures in place. Just to rule that out as a cause for why it's not working.

Thx Alicia,

I will try it tomorrow, not at home right now. Are my settings in the config files ok?

About the spaces in the name: I already thought the .app did not load! I will change the name.

I will also delete my wifi password, and change the SSID to something easy to start with.

Any other things to think about?

Don't think so.

Code: Select all
WLAN_CFG=RT2870STA.dat
WLAN_LOAD=rt3070sta.ko

seems wrong for your dongle.

First make sure you have a wireless-mod.app.bin (or whatever it's name is) that supports the chipset your dongle uses !

BTW : great tool for trouble shooting : log-saver.app.bin.
Place it in the root of an USB stick like with all app.bin's. It will create text files on the stick that you can analyse on your pc.
