Re: realtek wireless drivers

Postby czym » Sat Oct 29, 2011 1:29 am

I got the same problem with claymca. This usb dongle is with the RTL8191SU chip. The router log show it was connected with mac address but no IP when WDLXTV startup. Dongle led just flashing. Can some give some clue from the messages.log before I give out. :(

There are the setup:
1.03.01_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV-0.5.8.1
wireless-mod-wdlxtv.app.bin
realtek-wireless-drivers-0.1.app.bin
log-saver.app.bin

*UPDATE*
3/7/2011
Fix permissions on init script
add dependencies for wireless modules, fixes modprobe.

Included in this app.bin is 2 drivers:
1. rtl8712_8188_8191_8192SU
2. rtl8192CU
3. RTL8187L *update*

dependencies:
wireless app pack (without this, it will not work)

Modules:
/lib/modules/2.6.15-TvDock/r8187l.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.15-TvDock/8712u.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.15-TvDock/8192cu.ko

The 8192cu and RTL8187L driver is UNTESTED! I do not have this device so that means I have no way to test. I only
included this was because someone requested this. Regardless of what driver you use, be sure to use
the log-saver app since this will grab all the log files and info needed for debugging any problems. If
you want me to help you send me the output from log-saver or else your PM's and postings
will be ignored. Send me all the logs log-saver generates, don't send me 1 or a parsed version.. I'll
be the one debugging so I know what I'm looking for.

I'll add some more, but again.. I do not own any of the devices except the 8188.

BTW, always test with an open/no security configured WIFI and static IP first. Configuring wpa_supplicant is a pain
to configure and you'll save me and you alot of headaches.

Please any one guide me on how to load this app onto my Wdtv 1st Gen
I have rtl8187
I see guides on how to add other driver , and it requires one dat file of the driver name
But for rtl8187 i searched alot i canot find it
Plz Any instructions on how to load with these set of tools?
I been looking thru the forum thru wdtv site and b.rads website also svn for files and stuffs

I am stuck with rtl8187 as thats the only available wireless usb device in my country - (atleast in my city)

Okay the problem was that at different places different stuffs are mentioned
For instance i did not have

FLASH="/tmp/media/usb/CHANGME" note(-where changeme is my usb name)
SSID="TP-LINK"
wifidev="wlan0"

at the begining of my net config

Also My net config orignally came with only 36 line and ended with donot load any network devices
I wished an update and proper guide was placed at one place, :(

Now moving on i see light on my realtek 8187 (ALFA), Now i dont know if i copied other codes properly, and i definetly dont know where to put in my usernam and pw and settings for my wpa

I dont have the below where do i put it and where can i get the
wpa_supplicant.conf
thanks

wpa_supplicant.conf
ctrl_interface=/tmp/wpa_supplicant
network={
ssid="stargate"
# uncomment next line if your ap doesn't broadcast ssid
#scan_ssid=1
proto=WPA
pairwise=CCMP TKIP
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk="12345678"

Re: realtek wireless drivers

Postby freak_wdlxtv » Fri Jan 20, 2012 7:48 am

hi everyone,

I started a new job last year and I've been crazy busy!!! We are migrating our site to a new hosting facility so I'm not around as often. If you email me I will respond, so I'm not 100% out of the picture. I dont have a dev env anymore, but with any luck once we get to stuff migrated I'll have everything I'll need to get back into this.

So when using these driver please follow the directions. Install logsaver and always using a WIDE OPEN with NO ENCRYPTION first! I will and cannot help you I we cant verify your wireless card is working properly without encryption. The logsaver app with generate collect a few files, I need you to send me those files.

take care,

Re: realtek wireless drivers

Postby timeey » Tue Jan 24, 2012 6:20 am

I also cannot get this thing done. But would be nice to play movies/series from my server because i have an old gen1 in my bedroom and some wlan usb sticks.

I've tested with opened wifi/no encryption and with wpa2. The configs should be ok. The usb stick (all of them) blink and is listed in the router. So it seems to be connected, but no packets sent/received and so i cannot get an IP or ping the device (with DHCP=yes and DHCP=no).

The facts:
Firmware: 1.03.01_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV-0.5.8.1
USB WLAN Sticks tested: LogiLink WL0086 (8188SU) and LogiLink WL0085 (8192SU) -> module 8712u

Thats on my usb stick:
realtek-wireless-drivers-0.1.app.bin

Postby freak_wdlxtv » Sat Mar 17, 2012 10:38 pm

@timeey

its not finding your wpa_supplicant.conf file.. so its not starting wpa_supplicant. *sigh*.. I'll look over the logs again.. but I'm not sure.

for FLASH=
try
FLASH="/tmp/media/usb/USB2/3EDE-A2EE"

and
ctrl_interface=/tmp/wpa_supplicant

should always be

ctrl_interface=/tmp/wpa_supplicant.ctrl

. The script looks for this file.

Something I see recurring in this thread is driver load , in an open/nonsecure config, with no IP being configured. I had made a few changes to my own base fw and wonder if a few of my fixes/changes updated something.

its 3am and I should get to bed. I'm on this and will see if my wdtv gen 1 still boots up. It should be a very simple fix, just need to look at a few files and compare against brad's fw.
p.s.
if it doesnt work with an open/non-secure AP.. you will never get it to work with WPA. Trust me.. I spent days getting the scripts/config
to work before getting everything working properly.

Re: realtek wireless drivers

Postby gluck » Tue Mar 27, 2012 2:47 pm

Hi,

I have a Netgear WG111v2 USB Wi-Fi stick, which is a Realtek 8187L chipset.
I have tried several configurations, but they all end up the same way : black screen.
I do not have an Access Point which allows me to be completly open, so I used Connectify under Win7.

Except a 0 byte sized iwifi file, you'll find all the logs & files below.

net.config
Code: Select all
    #replace CHANGEME with the name of your flash drive
    #that would be what you labeled it.
    FLASH="/tmp/media/usb/WDLXTV"
    SSID="Connectify-me"
    wifidev="wlan0"

    # if you do not set a hostname,a random one is assigned.
    #You can override the hostname here:
    HOST=wdtv

    # attempt to set jumbo frames
    #MTU=9000

    #this is for an open wireless setup
    WIFITOOL=IWTOOLS

    #uncomment this if you need WPA or WPA2 etc..
    #when using this, you MUST configure wpa_supplicant
    #WIFITOOL=WPASUP

    #wireless
    if [ ! -f /tmp/running_net.config ]; then
    logger "Starting IW Tools.."
    touch /tmp/running_net.config

    #your driver goes here
    #uncomment the correct one
    #modprobe -v 8712u
    #modprobe -v 8192cu
    modprobe -v r8187l

    ifconfig ${wifidev} up

    case ${WIFITOOL} in

    IWTOOLS)
    sleep 5
    echo ${wifidev}
    iwconfig ${wifidev} mode Managed 2>> ${FLASH}/iwifi

    iwconfig ${wifidev} essid ${SSID}

    ;;

    WPASUP)

    if [ -x ${FLASH}/wpa_supplicant.conf ]; then
    if [ ! -x /tmp/wpa_supplicant.ctrl ]; then
    logger "IWIFI: WPASUP"
    modprobe -v ieee80211_crypt_tkip
    modprobe -v ieee80211_crypt_ccmp
    modprobe -v ieee80211_crypt_wep
    wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -i ${wifidev} -c ${FLASH}/wpa_supplicant.conf
    fi
    fi

    ;;

    esac

@gluck, looks like its your wifi card. Do you have the specs/model etc...?

everyone else. can someone please send the contents of /etc/mdev.conf

If I remember correctly I modified my firmware to include wlan0. This is why it worked for me,
since you can't do that.

just add this to the end of your net.config for DHCP:

#starts dhcp client request
udhcpc -b -p /tmp/udhcp.pid -S -i ${wifidev}

just add this to the end of your net.config for static IP:
#setup ip address statically from previously
#defined variables.
ifconfig ${wifidev} ${IP} ${NM} up

Re: realtek wireless drivers

Postby zaskar2097 » Fri Nov 30, 2012 2:29 pm

A few days ago I decided to try and upgrade my gen1 WD TV. It had been sitting as a backup media player for a while. I had a wireless adaptor sitting around and thought of trying to get it to work with b-rad's WDLXTV-0.5.8.1.
The adapter turned out to be based on the Realtek RTL8188CU chipset. Luckily I found this thread and after a lot of hours messing around, I got it working with WPA.
Since I needed a bit of messing around to get this thing to work I thought I would leave my configuration files... maybe someone else will find them useful!

The configs below regard this device in particular, and a WPA TKIP network.

net.config
Code: Select all
#replace CHANGEME with the name of your flash drive
#that would be what you labeled it.
FLASH="/tmp/media/usb/CHANGEME"
SSID="FILL_IN_SSID_HERE"
wifidev="wlan0"

#Patch for realtek wlan0 devices
echo "${wifidev}   0:0 755 *(/etc/hotplug/net.agent)" >> /etc/mdev.conf

# if you do not set a hostname,a random one is assigned.
#You can override the hostname here:
HOST=wdtv

# attempt to set jumbo frames
#MTU=9000

#this is for an open wireless setup
#WIFITOOL=IWTOOLS

#uncomment this if you need WPA or WPA2 etc..
#when using this, you MUST configure wpa_supplicant

wpa_supplicant.conf

All files and tips were gathered from these forums, so thanks to all the others who put the effort into making them available! freak_wdlxtv's last post really got me in the right direction and was actlually the final push that got my device working.
I then patched the beggining of the net.config script so that b-rad's firmware recognizes the device without the need for starting dhcp/ifconfig directly from the script.
Hope this can be of help to others.

Re: realtek wireless drivers

Postby Amis » Thu Feb 14, 2013 5:08 pm

Hello Every Body

After Reading this Topic i found many wrong things therefor i decided to solve the problem myself and this is what i did :

1. try to connect to the router without any encryption and it is successful
2. try to connect to the router with WPA encryption and it is successful
3. try to connect to the router with WPA2 encryption and it is successful

I don't want to described the detail of that because if you understand the Linux you can find the solution and if you don't my word is useless and just waste my time ;) but believe me if you find the linux driver for your device you can connect it to WDTV ...

Procedure :

1. find the right driver of your WLAN device ( if you don't know use wikidevi.com and find the linux driver name )
2. you should find your FLASH serial number with chkdsk ( if you don't know search the internet )
3. use following code for Unencrypted/WPA/WPA2 (if you want you can use another encryption method but not with these codes :) ) change parameter according to your devices

---important items in net.config
FLASH="/tmp/mnt/SN"
SSID="ROUTER SSID"
#modprobe -v 8712u
#modprobe -v 8192cu
#modprobe -v r8187l
Try to use DHCP=yes (when it is working very well why you use static IP ;) )

ssid="ROUTER SSID"
psk="ASCII PASS PHRASE"
