Are .TGMD files needed?

I'm creating all my moviesheets and it's got me wondering what purpose the .TGMD metadata files serve.

not required but recommended

they contain all the data used to make moviesheets
ie if you ever have to redo your moviesheets
you can set thumbgen to use data from .tgmd instead of downloading it all again

example if you wanted to change templates
recreate from tgmd is so much faster than redownload everything

also an interesting fact
.tgmd is actually just a zip file with a custom extension
you can unzip and see what gets saved inside
