LINKSHEETS for IDIOTS

Everything (else) to do with Movie Sheets and homebrew firmware on the WDTV(s), including how the %*#^ do I get them working?

Hi

Created movie sheets:

Main Moviesheet: Template_STD (For Movie SHeet)
Extra Moviesheet: Template_Sheet (For Folder Sheet)

I have a problem, I can view at the bottom all the thumbnails for the movies (folder.jpg) and when I select the folder I see the extra Movie sheet (extra in thumbgen). but when I go inside the folder, I see the Main moviesheet (main movie sheet in thumbgen) and also a thumbnail at the left bottom.

Please advise how can I hide the thumbnail at the left bottom. I tried loads of things like adding a .<moviefoldername>.jpg but still the same.

This STILL only works on 1.02.21 firmware with ExtSheet plugin not on 1.05.04 with linksheets...

Read it many times but STILL not able to get it to work.

in Thumbgen:

Main Moviesheet = BG1_Brightly_Dark_STD
Extra Moviesheet = BG1_Brightly_Dark_SHEET

Extra is used for the folder.

So I get this SHEET along with the thumbnails in the bottom thats fine. When I go into the folder, I shoudl see only the Movie SHeet full screen. Instead, I see a thumbnail too

what is wrong here, I am tired of reading the WIKI and all the other forums

All the magic is configuration settings, right firmware version and filenames.
Post those to give us some clues. about your setup..
It doesn't matter wich template you use in ThumbGen (except the moviesheet mode of course).

3a. (for locally attached drives) use WEC to enable early mount for the drive that will contain your MSHEETDIR
how exactly do I do that?
4. Reboot and allow linksheets to fully run - the light on your device will stop blinking
5. Now that linksheets has finished log in to telnet/ssh and execute the following command
cp /msheets/* /path/to/MSHEETDIR
cp /msheets/*/Z:/VIDEO/MSHEETDIR is that how the command would look like?
note that this is quite slow and took about 10 minutes here for approx 1000 sheets - you'll know it's done when you get a new prompt sign "#"
6. use WEC to set your MSHEETDIR - (linksheets must stay enabled)
how exactly do I do that?
7.(Step 7 only needed prior to WDLXTV firmware version 5.1.0. version 5.1.0 and newer completely disables linksheet scanning if MSHEETDIR is set)
I have FW Base: 1.05.04 / Current version: 0.5.1.1 so step 7 does not apply in my case, right?
Now that your MSHEETDIR has been populated, you must delete your sheets located anywhere else on the system. This is very important that you do not have duplicate sheets located anywhere else, if you do next time you reboot linksheets will corrupt your MSHEETDIR rendering it useless
so any file ending with '_sheet.jpg' must not be found anywhere outside the MSEETDIR folder, correct?
8.Reboot and enjoy

3. open wec and check the box for early mount next to the drive you want to early mount
5. No the cmd would look something like
Code: Select all
cp /msheets/* /tmp/mnt/UUIDofYOURdrivehere/MSHEETDIR

6. open wec and type the path to your MSHEETDIR in the field titled MSHEETDIR
7. on 1.05.04 WDLXTV 5.1.1 this step is not needed

questions:
- what is .m2ts ?
- in case I add a new movie called 'Batman.mkv' under Z:\VIDEO\MOVIES\Batman, I would earlier have had Batman_sheet.jpg in Z:\VIDEO\MOVIES and Batman.mkv_sheet.jpg in Batman.mkv_sheet.jpg !! Now instead I'd have to place Batman_sheet.jpg and Batman.mkv_sheet.jpg in the folder Z:\VIDEO\MSHEETDIR? or would I have to rename them to Batman.jpg and Batman.mkv.jpg after placing them there?
- do I have to rename my older sheets after I placed them in the folder Z:\VIDEO\MSHEETDIR? i.e. the sheets Avatar_sheet.jpg in folder Z:\VIDEO\MOVIES and Avatar.avi_sheet.jpg in folder Z:\VIDEO\MOVIES\Avatar would have to be renamed to Avatar.jpg and Avatar.avi.jpg after being placed in Z:\VIDEO\MSHEETDIR?
- after adding a new movie, would I have to initiate a new scan so the new sheets would appear? can this be done by a single POWER OFF/ON cycle of my player?

in my example the .m2ts is an image file a .jpg titled with .m2ts as the file extension instead of using .jpg as a file extension
so your example would correctly be titled as Batman.mkv even though it's actually a .jpg

if you follow the instructions the linux cp command will resolve the symlink and naming issues
so that you only have to manually rename new files you put in the directory
using MSHEETDIR, adding new files does not require a rescan, just put the new files in the directory, and they will appear on your WD, no reboot or scanning needed

Im using Homebrew 1.05.04 WDLXTV 0.5.1.1

MSHEETMODE = sheet in WEC

Created Moviesheets in thumbgen using the default and others to try.

WD settings for video is thumbnails

rest is all said !

still I am not able to get anything to work. I did some experiments with STD mode and created STD mode sheets, when I go into movie folder I see the whole page sheet (hiding the thumbnails for folders) then when I select a movie (going inside the movie folder) I see another full screen sheet without any thumbnails visible.

But what I want is to see the thumbnails in the parent folder (list of thumbnails at the bottom) and when I get inside the folder, I want to see the full screen movie sheet.

I believe Im trying to mix Sheet and STD mode all together.

but thats what I want, if I can see a full screen movie sheet while I am in the movies (parent) folder why would I want to see another full screen again when I go into the movie folder

my movies are stored as:

x:\Movies\3D Movies\Movie 1\Movie 1.avi
x:\Movies\3D Movies\Movie 2\Movie 2.avi
x:\Movies\English\Movie 1\Movie 1.avi
x:\Movies\English\Movie 2\Movie 2.avi

and so on.

when I go into the 3D Movies folder, I want to see the Movie folder lists (Movie 1, Movie 2, etc.) at the bottom along with a small description of the movie at the top, and when I go inside the movie folder (Movie 1), I want to see a full screen sheet without any thumbnail.

I believe I have tried to explain what I want to achieve. Its been a week and I am just screwing up my HDD by removing and putting it back between my laptop and WD LIVE.

Please, please, please, guide me :(

1. I told you to post your configuration and not just one single entry.
2. We told several times in this thread and it's said in the Wiki that mixing of modes (std/sheet or std/wall) only works with firmware 1.02.21 and ExtSheet plugin.
3. I told you I'm not interested in ThumbGen settings or templates but the resulting files and most important their filenames.

Looks like I've PISSED you off !!!

anyways I ended up using sheet mode with one of the templates though I see that thumbnail but its not distracting.

I will look into 1.02.21 and ExtSheet plugin sometime.

thanks for the support and keep the progress going !

Hey Everyone,

So I am having a problem setting up my moviesheets. My device info is Device:WDLXTV_PLUS
Latest version: 0.5.1.1
Current version: 0.5.1.1
FW Base: 1.05.04

This is my file structure

Movies
Movies\(500) Days of Summer
Movies\(500) Days of Summer\.folder.jpg (folder thumbnail in the "Movies" folder)
Movies\(500) Days of Summer\(500) Days of Summer.mkv
Movies\(500) Days of Summer\.wd_tv.jpg (folder moviesheet in the "Movies" folder)

Simply put, each movie gets its own folder. I am showing the movie folders in wall mode.

The way I have this file structure set up now, the movie is the only thing showing up in the folder (in this case, the "(500) Days of Summer" folder) when I open it. When scrolling over the folder, everything shows correctly. However, when I open the folder and I am scrolled over the .mkv file, I get a blank screen. What I want is to see when I am scrolled over the .mkv file is the movie sheet and thumbnail that appears when scrolled over the (500) Days of Summer folder. I have tried adding new copies of the movie sheets and thumbnails to the (500) Days of Summer folder and tried naming them according to as many different naming conventions I have found, such as:

(500) Days of Summer (2009).mkv_sheet.wall.jpg
(500) Days of Summer (2009).mkv.cover.jpg
(500) Days of Summer (2009).mkv_sheet.jpg
(500) Days of Summer (2009).jpg

I have noticed in playing with the different naming conventions, that for adding movie sheets and thumbnails to the movie folders, that all these different naming conventions should in theory work. Does anyone have any ideas of why this isn't working for me? Does anyone understand what I am asking?

Thanks,

TheQuietRebel

i have two seperate usb drives connected to my wdtv live. i have a 3tb with all my movies and a 2tb with all my tv shows. when i power on the wdtv with a single drive, let the linksheets scan the drive and then it displays the sheets perfectly. i power down, connect the second drive let it scan, finds and displays all sheets perfectly, power down. plug in both drives and let it scan, usb 1 which is my tv shows only shows sheets for majority of the shows but not all and all my movies show sheets perfectly. will using this new script possibly remedy this? also am i understanding that only this:
Code: Select all
#!/bin/sh
mount --bind /conf/linksheets.pl /usr/bin/linksheets

will be in the S00-user-script file or is that in addition to
Code: Select all
config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=sheet
config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c GENMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c LISTMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c LINKSHEETS=ON
config_tool -c SHOW_FILESIZE_SETTING=0
config_tool -c WDTVEXT=OFF

sorry if this is an idiodic question. would just really like to speed up the scanning option since i have almost 5tb of movies and shows to scan through.

Edit: in case it matters i am running 1.05.04-0.5.1.1
