LINKSHEETS for IDIOTS

Everything (else) to do with Movie Sheets and homebrew firmware on the WDTV(s), including how the %*#^ do I get them working?

Hi Everyone.

I´m hoping you can help me with a couple of questions.

I have a WDTV Live with one USB drive attached and 2 NAS drives on the network. About 2 weeks ago I got Chris Bone´s fast linksheets script working according to recliq´s tutorial http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2079&start=230#p54098.

This works great and is much faster that the original script. The only problem is that Moviesheets will only display if the NAS drives are turned on and the WDTV is connected to them. If I only have the USB drive plugged in, the moviesheets will not display on it.

Is there anything I can try to get moviesheets displaying when only the USB drive is in. This did work before I started using the Perl script.

The second question I have is if there is a way to determine if the old linksheets script is running at startup. The lights still blinks for a long time after a startup and I still get the "scanning attached USB drive" for quite a long time before the moviesheets will display, but only after a power on. Deleting the contents of the MSHEET directory and running the perl script manually is very quick in comparisson, so that is why I suspect the old script may still be running at bootup.

I have changed the S00user-script to run the new script and I can see it registered in the messages.txt file but I think the old script may still be launching as well as part of the startup process.

Thanks for your help.

1. Where are the movies (and moviesheets) located? On the USB drive? If this is the case it should work even without NAS connected.

2. If you followed my tutorial and got the new linksheets script running it replaces the old one, so the old one is never executed.
What you see is dmaosd scanning the drive, to disable this you have to disable Media Library in Settings -> System in OSD.

Thanks for your reply recliq.

In answer to your question, the moviesheets are located on the USB drive and on the NAS drives using exactly the same layout on both. (I copy folders from the NAS drives to the USB to avoid having to have the NAS drives running when the WDTV is running. This is because we get a LOT of power cuts here and I have my WDTV and TV running off a battery / inverter backup but not my NAS drives)-

I´ve just noticed that the folders that are on both the USB drive and the NAS drive were not get moviesheets displaying when browsing either the NAS or the USB. Those that are on the NAS drive were displaying fine.

I deleted the .wd_tv folder on the usb drive and gave it a reboot and this seems to have resolved the issue. I thought I had already tried this but obviously not.

Will keep an eye on it for a few days to see if it re-occurs.

Cheers

It won't work if you have movies with the same name on NAS and USB. Moviesheets will only work in one of the two places because the filenames are not unique!

Thanks recliq

It definitely makes sense what you are saying. However when the USB alone is plugged in and the NAS drives are turned off, I should still get moviesheets on the USB as the filenames will definitely be unique, correct?

What I couldn´t figure out is why moviesheets wouldn´t display when only the USB is plugged in.

As I mentioned, it started working again after deleting the .wd_tv folder on the USB drive, but at this stage I´m still unsure if that was coincidence or not. I need to see if I can replicate the issue over the next few days.

Yes

One thing I can imagine is that you USB drive is not yet completely mounted when the linksheets script is run. (Though this should be covered by other scripts...)
Next time this happens (no sheets from USB) try to re-run the linksheets script from shell and see if sheets work afterwards.

PS: You're not using MSHEETDIR, are you?

Hi there! I think I fall into the idiot category.

WDTV Live (Gen2) WDBAAP0000NBK running custom firmware 1.05.04_V.WDLXTV_LIVE-0.5.1.1

I have an external HD with each movie in its own folder.

Within each movie folder is the following:
Aliens.jpg (thumb)
Aliens.mvk
Aliens.mkv_sheet.jpg
folder_sheet.jpg

I have managed to get all the folder sheets/thumbs looking nice, and the movie sheet is okay, but I'm getting a thumb in the bottom left corner of the movie sheet. If I delete the aliens.jpg thumb file then I get a 'blank' thumb in the movie sheet and also lose the thumb in the folder sheet.

How do I get ride of this?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Classical mistake... you use SHEET mode but generated STD mode sheets.
Either change to STD mode (and remove the folder sheets)
Code: Select all
config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=STD

or generate file sheets with a SHEET mode template.

Thanks for your quick reply, recliq.

STD is definitely not what I'm after, I was hoping you could get a SHEET + STD combo somehow. All good, thanks!

SHEET/WALL + STD combo is only possible with ExtSheet plugin (and thus for now with 1.02.21 base fw).
