alphabetical order

Postby damelco » Fri Dec 04, 2015 11:06 am

in a discussion of his cover trickle effect movie-sheets, buhric had mentioned in another post the alphabetic order as being different

Here's something you might not have noticed.
The WDTV alphabetical sorting is not the same as Windows....
here's the order the WDTV sorts names out....

Code: Select all
    \/:!#$%&()\; ,-@[]^{}~+=\'0123456789_abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

Movie Sheets: HowTo Guide - Cover Trickle Template

two questions have eluded me
1) where does the 'period' fall?
2) why three different sort orders?

windows explorer orders the movies
7 Seconds (2005)
8 Mile (2002)
10 items or Less (2006)
10.5 (2004)

thumbgen (inside windows) orders the movies
10 items or Less (2006)
10.5 (2004)
7 Seconds (2005)
8 Mile (2002)

and WDlxTV's file manager orders them as
7 Seconds (2005)
8 Mile (2002)
10 items or Less (2006)
10.5 (2004)

but WDlxTV display them in this order
10 items or Less (2006)
10.5 (2004)
7 Seconds (2005)
8 Mile (2002)

but the topper is the trickle script processes them in this order
10.5 (2004)
10 items or Less (2006)
7 Seconds (2005)
8 Mile (2002)

so? the question is why ? but more importantly, how does one create consistency ... obviously necessary for the trickle effect to work!

thanks in advance for any input!

Separate your numbers with a space;
2 1
2 0 1 2
its unconventional ordering, but works. Consider switching to a WALL view and WALL template. Easier to do new sheets, faster to scroll thru library, trickle not an issue, great for large libraries.
