Use Existing Thumbnail/Moviesheet from Ember Media Manager

Postby dbol » Tue May 08, 2012 7:04 am

I have YAMJ setup for a PopBox and PopCorn Hour at my house which I created with Ember Media Manager.
The syntax of the filenames are as follows:

Cover Art: <movie>.jpg
MovieSheet Art: <movie>.fanart.jpg

It appears that WDTV Live moviesheets will accept <movie>.jpg as cover art already, but moviesheets need the _sheet appended to the filename.
If I read correctly, I should be able to use my existing nfo and art in ThumbGen, however, when I run ThumbGen, every movie gets skipped because "thumbnail already exists." I don't want to overwrite any of my art. If I'm not mistaken, the fanart (moviesheet images in wdlxtv) just needs to be copied and renamed with the term _sheet appended to the filename. Is this possible?

On WD you could use a little BASH script to copy and rename the sheets, like this (untested!!)
Code: Select all
#!/usr/bin/bash
SHEETS=($(find /tmp/media/usb -type f -name '*.fanart.jpg'))
for SHEET in ${SHEETS[*]}; do
  NEWSHEET=$(echo "${SHEET}" | sed 's/.fanart/_sheet/')
  cp -v "${SHEET}" "${NEWSHEET}"
done

This script is not tested maybe you should replace cp -v with echo to test renaming first...

Great!!! Why didn't I think of this?! Next to impossible without 3rd party utilities in Windows...
Script looks good; let me give it a shot. Thanks!

I've got another question or two about this...

Since Ember Media Manager scraped all the art together for the intention of using it with Syabas gear, the resolutions of the covers and movie art is different than what the WDTV calls for.

Some of the fanart (moviesheets) are 720p, some are 1080p resolution. Since the WDTV OSD is 720p, will it scale down 1080p art to fit correctly?
The cover sheets vary in resolution, with some of the pictures exceeding 300KB in size. I think I read somewhere that there's a size limit to each picture for the WDTV.

Now, considering that I must maintain my current folder structure (including Ember Media Manager's pictures inside each respective movie folder) for my PopCorn Hour and PopBox, what's the best way to go about preparing my movies for MovieSheets?

Moviesheets are not resized on WDTV, a sheet image for WDTV should be 1280x720.
You may need to resize them... (hint: imagemagick is included in WDTV... http://linux.die.net/man/1/convert).

All images (sheets, thumbs, etc..) must be smaller 500KB or they might not be displayed.

Whats the optimal resolution for cover art? If I'm in sheet mode, thumbnails are not required, but instead, the cover art is displayed, right?

thumbs == cover image
these are handled by dmaosd and resized by the osd. Good starting point is 240x360 but they can be bigger.

As long as the image files are smaller than 500KB and the name is already <movie>.jpg there should be no need to touch those.
