Thumbgen no longer sees mapped drive

Postby worlok » Sat Jan 08, 2011 12:13 pm

I am using Thumbgen 1.2.2.9 on Windows 7 and I was running it all day yesterday creating my movie images for my jukebox. I was using the movie information from a mapped drive to my network device. Everything worked great and I was able to create the images for the movies currently on the box.

Last night I copied some new movies over to the device.

This morning I started up the application and it will not see the mapped drive. I have changed the drive letter, rebooted (multiple times with multiple drive letters), started Thumbgen as an administrator, not an administrator, in Windows XP compatibility mode, made sure that I have "allow" access to all the files, etc. I am at a loss as to what to try next. It would be nice if there was a way to manually identify the device in the application, but the only option is to refresh the drive list, which now does not show the mapped drive.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hm, that is a bit strange. You should simply map the network drive to a letter and it should appear in TG :( If it was working for you before then the only thing that could have changed are the rights.

Ok this is what I have found out so far.

I logged out of my account and logged in as the local Administrator, ran Thumbgen and it worked fine. Logged out and back in as me and it would not see the drive that was there before. Logged back in as the local Administrator and this time when I started Thumbgen, it would not see the mapped drive that it saw on the first load.

I have deleted all of the program files, including the ../applicationData/Thumbgen directory and re-started the app, but it does not make a difference.

I did notice that clicking the "refresh" icon in the app does not appear to go out and check anything on the system as it returns to the same drive list almost immediately.

Try to run ThumbGen as Administrator (right click, Run as Admin)

I have the same problem. I am using Thumbgen 1.2.2.9 on Windows Vista. Thumbgen only sees local drives even if "\\WDTVLIVEHUB\WDTVLiveHub" is mapped to "W:" drive. Explorer displays the drives correctly. I always run ThumbGen as Administrator.

I have some questions...

As an example - folder of "2001-A Space Odyssey" movie (on internal drive "W:"):

W:\Video\Movies\2001-A Space Odyssey (1968) [DVD9]

Directory structure:

Directory of W:\Video\Movies\2001-A Space Odyssey (1968) [DVD9]

16. 01. 2011 21:54 <DIR> .
15. 01. 2011 18:56 <DIR> ..
25. 12. 2010 19:00 <DIR> Artwork
31. 08. 2010 07:44 42˙345 folder.jpg
25. 12. 2010 19:06 <DIR> VIDEO_TS
1 File(s) 42˙345 bytes
4 Dir(s) 41˙715˙425˙280 bytes free

Artwork - subdirectory with covers and DVD scans
folder.jpg - DVD cover scan 140 x 200 Pixels
VIDEO_TS - subdirectory with DVD content

All my movies are stored on internal HDD of WD TV® Live Hub (fw 2.03.24 (12/2010)) with this data structure.

What is the difference when compared thumbs generating for WD TV® Live and for WD TV® Live Hub?
Is Thumbgen compatible with WD TV® Live Hub?
Is possible to generate thumbs to the directory W:\Video\Movies\2001-A Space Odyssey (1968) [DVD9] (root of movie directory)?
It meens movie info will apear when I select this directory (it will be not necessary to go to the VIDEO_TS directory).

In "Options - TELNET/SSH" are "TELNET Connection Settings" and "SSH Connection Settings".
What is the meaning of these settings:
Host/IP - what to write: 192.168.1.120 or WDTVLIVEHUB or \\WDTVLIVEHUB or \\WDTVLIVEHUB\WDTVLiveHub
Port - why 23 (/22)
Username/password - root (as in Unix - but password???) or sharing name and password (the same as in the device setup)

Many thanks for answer.

Not yet

Is possible to generate thumbs in the directory W:\Video\Movies\2001-A Space Odyssey (1968) [DVD9] (root of movie directory)?

Yes, it is possible. "Enable smart output for DVD/Bluray structures" in Options/Advanced settings

Perhaps the problem is access rights because the internal drive runs under Unix Samba.
When you look on permissions, one and only user with access is root (Unix user\root).
I cannot add any other Windows user with any permissions...

Edit: I tried to map any other LAN HDD - result is the same ("Thumbgen no longer sees mapped drives") - it is Windows system issue (I think)...

Was the last time any system security update..?

You may want to check the following link if you are using samba and the root of the drive have filenames with invalid Windows characters.

http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=3345.msg61146#msg61146

I always have had problems as I use my network drive with other unix-based systems and filesystems that, as Windows and ntfs, like to add invisible files in the root with invalid characters for thumgen and when TG go into them do not show anything. Even files created by Windows are read differently when the drive is plugged directly to the PC than when read via samba.

My solution:

I have movie collections inside a folder an map that folder not the drive, ie

/DriveName/Video/MyMovies
/DriveName/Video/MyKidsMovies
/DriveName/Video/TV Shows

Instead of mapping "DriveName" I map the "Video" folder. (\\192.168.X.XX\DriveName\Video)

Hope this helps

... still the same ...

Thumbgen sees no mapped drive - Vista sees all drives :!:

Same for me. Windows Server 2008 R2, WD TV mounted USB drive mapped as Windows drive. ThumbGen does not list it.
