Maybe I misinterpreted the article(I am native french):

CableCARD tuners aren't exactly known for their ease of setup, but once you do get this working with your cable company and on your network, it'll show up like any other DLNA source

I understand that you need the cooperation of your cable distributor to make this work.
From the cable distributor's perspective, I do no see any benefit for them, and even potentially
lost of sales for a second or third decoder in the same house.

I could replace my second cable decoder by that device (past kids bedtime, only one tv is being used),
and on the second tv, kids do not watch cable, but only media on home server.

Are they talking about DVB(-C) ??
I have this setup for DLNA for over a year: DVB-C card + CI and DVBViewer Streaming Server, works like a charme for SD and HD channels, even WDTV plays those, just takes a while for the stream to start playback (but that's a WDTV issue).

The HDHomeRun Prime is only for US cable. QAM only. Not even broadcast channels. SiliconDust makes other versions of the HDHomeRun for various formats but AFAIK that is the only one for encrypted programming. It requires a CableCARD rented from the cable company and, to get all the channels you're subscribed to, Windows Media Center on Win 7 or 8. Considering all the trouble they're having getting it to work reliably on all the different cable systems in the US, my guess is that they don't plan to roll out a similar product for other countries any time soon.

Decrypts US Cable using a Cable Card you rent from the Cable Provider.

I may buy one so I can record shows on my PC. More later, maybe.
