Recommendation for IP Webcam

Postby mad_ady » Mon Apr 30, 2012 12:23 am

I'm looking to get an IP webcam to have remote vision in a room somewhere.
Here are my requirements:

* wired, non-poe
* should do at least 640x480@25fps + audio
* should have a web interface and allow to view the video via a browser
* should use a standard codec (e.g. bonus points if it would play on the wdtv)
* should have infrared vision/night vision
* should be stable (e.g. not require constant reboots).

I don't currently need to save the video stream anywhere, nor to trigger it with motion controls, and can be fixed (e.g. no tilting), but I don't mind if it has these facilities. Oh, did I mention it shouldn't be too pricy?

Any recommendations? I don't have experience with IP webcams...
Thanks

I already have one of those (a different model, but same features) and it works well. Except it doesn't do IP :P Oh, and when docked to a PC it doesn't output sound (they call it a safety feature, in case your speakers are off - pfff).

I'm looking into remote surveillance now, and 100m is not remote enough... :D

I bought one of these about a month ago:
http://www.amazon.com/Foscam-FI8910W-Network-Camera-Two-Way/dp/B006ZPWS4U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1358381140&sr=8-2&keywords=foscam+18910w

I would definitely recommend it. Log in via browser or app on my phone (tinycam).

Some of the things I like...
- You can set up motion detection alarms so it will take pictures and save them to an ftp.
- Audio out and Audio in (speak to camera)

I forgot to close this thread once I chose a camera.

I went with Edimax IC-7110W (http://www.edimax.com/en/support_detail.php?pl1_idSelect=support.php%3Fpl1_id%3D8%26mwsp%3D0&pl1_id=8&pd_id=415&button=Go) which has all the features I wanted (+PTZ), at an affordable price.

Better yet, I was able to get video streaming out of it (RTSP H.264), and even added support for it in the UMSP IP Camera plugin.
Here's some more "nitty gritty" information about what you can do with the camera: http://adrianpopagh.blogspot.ro/2012_11_01_archive.html

Thank you, everyone, for the help!

Non-techy reviewers seems to have problems with this product....

The foscam seems to be more user friendly:
