WD launched again another mediaplayer (wdtv live hub)

If it is true this model hasn't been officially announced yet but unofficially model WD TV Live Hub

Quick summary:

1.has played every media I've thrown at it tonight, mkv, .ts, .ts (HD), avi, iso.
2a. media can be loaded to the unit over the network, you give the unit a network name (WDTVLiveHub) is the default. You can copy to it while it plays media.
2b. You can copy off of a network share to the internal HDD via the main interface, but then you can't do anything till it's done.
3. DLNA media server on/off
4. itunes server on/off
5. network share server on/off
6. proxy
7. customize remote settings for A-D, 0-9 on the remote
8. sync from USB storage

Well glad that my Live+ does all I care about: acts as a NAS and plays Netflix (or any file format I throw at it)! Youtube and Pandora from WDLXTV are just icing on the cake, and i don't see anything too compelling over this new box

I have to admit that new live hub looks pretty nice

from the info on the net it looks like someone managed to get hold of one from best buy before they realised their mistake and pulled info off the website.

Now it will be interesting just what can be done with this machine....the new feature that interests me the most is it now has a built media server which means you can connect and stream FROM the hub to any other upnp/dlna device.... it also means that you can use a remote like plugplayer to browse the files on the live hub and send it back to it for playback or to another media player eg your old live now moved to another room...however it still looks like no built in browser yet

Well if you consider that at least when I got my live it was 119, then I paid another 119 a while later to add a 1.5t drive their price isn't too out there and in the one link that's Canadian dollars and I'm not sure what the exchange rate is these days but I think it's worth a bit less then the US dollar.
SO I paid 240 to finally get everything this box supports as it is BUT that is part of why I bought it, small, cheap, and I could add storage later.

box has same ram, same chipset, and same amount of nand as live/plus. the only differences are:
- 1TB 2.5" WD scorpio blue sata drive
- rtl gigE chip
- HDMI 1.4

its a fair $100 markup for that.

as for dimensions, its still pretty tight. approx 1.6wdtv's L & W, but shorter height wise. 7.75" x 6" x 1.25"

Good points.

I run a NAS/Server so the HD is not a huge plus to me.

Now for someone like my Son (has his own place) this would
probably work great; plus it would put it all in one box for him.

I think the new hub will be attractive to those who need an all-in-one solution. My parents for example would have liked this due to the internal hard drive. i load family videos for them anyway so they don't really touch their current WDTV other than the remote to watch movies. It makes sense to offer these. It's also nice to see WD supporting the brand.

Now for me and those who use B-Rad's firmware IMO, will not need this device. The Gigabit is nice and should be standard on future models but not a necessity. I would bet that most here use multiple, large hard drives if not NAS devices. The 1GB internal is nice but I would rather save money.
