New section for the new WDTV Live

Postby mcmanuf » Fri Oct 07, 2011 6:01 pm

Hi.

It seems a new WDTV live has been released with N wifi build in.
But maybe the firmware is encrypted as the WDTV Hub, so maybe we wont be able to get wdlxtv on it;(

Anyways its 99$

Does anyone know if there is a difference bewteen the NTSC and PAL version.
I don't recall the old WDTV's stating weather they were PAL or NTSC versions?

hi

not encrypted but squashfs instead of cramfs - so basically hackable !

the hub has cramfs as the live has and has some more wifi drivers:
------------------------8<-------------------
# ls hub/lib/modules/
2.6.22.19-29-4 ath_htc_hst.ko rt2870sta.ko
8192cu.ko ath_rate_atheros.ko rt3070sta.ko
8712u.ko ath_usbdrv.ko rt3572sta.ko
adf.ko em8xxx.ko scsi_wait_scan.ko
arusb_lnx.ko fctrl.ko sigmablock.ko
asf.ko i2c_hal.ko thermal_g751.ko
ath_dev.ko irkernel.ko ufsd.ko
ath_dfs.ko llad.ko umac.ko
ath_hal.ko pgdrv.ko wdtv_rv_microp.ko
ath_hif_usb.ko proc_pipe.ko
------------------------>8-------------------

Part of it are in a separate encrypted partition, such as the main dmaosd process that provides the OSD and its functionality. So in essence, this device is even more locked down than the Live Hub.

how a dmaosd gets updated then ?

seems that the sdk contains the dmaosd (for livegen3 - did not check hub so far) - hidden inside alpha.tar.gz :)

It's a cut-down version. It has no online service except maybe one or two.

Updates are done the same way as the kernel - through an encrypted .fff file.
