[How-To] Use eiri to use another remote control

This is the place to ask for how to use software that is (or isn't) included in the various wdlxtv flavours. Questions about software such as rtorrent, NZBGet, sshfs, curlftpfs, ssh, telnet, etc.

recliq & jamiroo thanks for the help. I confirmed my problem was that my eiri.conf file was not being correctly saved. due to running fw 4.2 full version, once I booted in 4.2 ext3, everything worked without a hitch. although b-rad notes in the custom options file there is a way to make it work with eiri.conf at root of drive during boot, but I couldn't get it to work that way. at least we know it works without a hitch running ext2

Is it possible to pass some parameters to the command which is executed?

I have a "Not seen" folder and a "Movies" folder. It would be awesome, to pass the selected file/directory to a "mv" command, which moves the movie I've just seen into the "Movies" folder.
Just a thought, but it would be pretty cool, don't you think?

that's a great idea, and I don't see any reason it couldn't be done, the first post in this thread indicates, that you can assign a key to run a script

impossible, the infrared module has absolutely no idea where you are in the menu or whats highlighted.

What a pitty... :(

Isn't there any module like DoSomething for WDTVExt, with which I can automate some stuff "on demand"? I really miss WDTVExt in the 1.05 version, but I won't switch back, because the 1.02 version can't play MKV's with compressed headers...

Are the app.bins solely "command line addons", i.e. addons, which have no visible impact on the OSD?

Sorry, went a little bit OT here, but maybe I could get some answers?!

shouldn't it be possible to create a script that can find what file or folder is selected?
I don't see what the script part of this has to do with the infrared module
eiri would just call the script
the script would run in the same fashion it would if called from cmd line

Does the light switch in your living room know who's sitting on the couch?

In theory it would be possible, just difficult to implement.
If the user has DMAOSD_DEBUG on, when the script is called, it could parse the dmaosd.log and get the path of the currently selected file. Don't think dmaosd exposes the full path, but you could "walk" through the debug statements and build it. But it is very convoluted...
RMerlin's suggestion is the best approach.
