50K+ people don't need to be tempted every time they open webend to put something in /conf. Nothing is hidden or obscured, its called protecting the n00b by keeping the dangerous stuff out of plain sight. Doesn't matter how loud you say 'theres ~65KB left' peeps will still attempt to put 62KB in there and then come here complaining how all of a sudden nothing works the same---because after the inaccuracy of counting the amount of space in /conf plus the file overhead, they actually had 5KB less space then was claimed. We don't really need to deal with that thousands of times over. If you want to use /conf for reasons not intended and have the knowledge of its space constraints & the ability to do it all nothing is preventing you from carrying on.

How about viewing log-files via WebEnd ?
/tmp/messages.txt
/var/log/apache2/error.log
/var/log/php5/error_log
etc.
With ability to add any text-file, of course.
With ability to set some mask (grep).

I've got something useful (and easily implementable): crontab editor.

You can get the current crontab by using crontab -l
And you can set a new crontab by doing
Code: Select all
#crontab -
0 0 * * * /path/to/script
CTRL+D

I guess you can send CTRL+D from php (as a special character), or an alternative would be
Code: Select all
echo '0 0 * * * /path/to/script ' | crontab -

but in this case it would break if the user's string contains "'" (could be escaped maybe).

The web interface could be a simple textarea. I guess crontab could validate it when setting. A more advanced version (but hopefully one that is already implemented for other projects) would be something ajax based that allows you to add entries, select dates and convert the result in crontab format.

In terms of usability - it would currently be used only for youtube-subscriptions, so I guess it would be low on your priority list.

For the next version (currently on SVN), I rewrote the whole backup/restore feature of WEC, which brought two major improvements:

1) Backups now include the whole content of the /conf folder
2) Backups are now downloadable to your PC. Restoring involves uploading a backup from your PC to your WDTV.

Those options have been moved to the Config tab:

I still have one or two more things in mind to add to that tab...

Hi.

This was just an idea that would be really cool in the long run.
Maybe change the webinterface to something like django framwwork?

This will pretty much take the UI to the next level in terms off functionality and beauty.

I was thinking something like the interface for freenas 8 or synology nas dsm 2.3:

Thanks

One problem I have with frameworks in general is, for a device with limited space such as the WDTV, it's often a waste of NAND space (assuming you can even fit it in). We are already space-starved with WDLXTV unfortunately.
