Hi,
Does this method work with EXT3 4.2.1, as I tried to follow the steps and was totally lost.
My apologizes as I am a bit of a noob and getting a hang of the whole mod scene.
Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Hi!

The solution at the first post works only with lighttpd web server, which is part of the B-rad's v0.4.2.0 fw. The v0.4.2.1 fw uses a different web server (Apache), with a different configuration. So at the v0.4.2.1 fw you (or somebody else) have to rewrite some of the above scripts to work with Apache web server.

BTW: I saw in the svn some lighttpd stuff (example in init.d), but i think that is only garbage, because I didn't find the rest part of lighttpd. Maybe I'm just blind. (there isn't any mention in the fw "features" about "Lighttpd removed")

Maybe next weekend I have time to write an Apache version configuration...

Hi Bagira,
I just downgraded to 4.2.0 and the method worked like a charm. Thanks a ton for the effort.
Do keep us posted if you manage to get this working on Brad's latest FW.
Have a great weekend and Cheers...

Today I no have time to publish (shopping, wedding (not mine)), but tomorrow (or on monday) I'll publish the solution.

Sounds like a legend in the making right here. When you post, please include idiot proof instructions.

Hi all!

This is the solution to get to work Pandora service outside the U.S. with B-rad's 0.4.2.1 Live firmware (both EXT and regular):
1. Download this file into WDTV /tmp directory
2. Extract it into /conf with the following command:
Code: Select all
tar -xvzf /tmp/pandora_conf.tgz -C /conf
3. Reboot your WDTV with the following command (it will save the whole conf dir and reboot):
Code: Select all
reboot
4. To define other proxy server, use script like (replace your favorite proxy IP, and PORT in this term: <PROXY IP>:<PROXY PORT>)
Code: Select all
config_tool -c GENERAL_PROXY='66.42.182.178:3128'

I've tested it only with EXT firmware, so please somebody confirm that this works with regular firmware.

The archive contains the following files:
  • general-proxy.php - to do the proxy-work
  • hosts - to reroute pandora_ep's calls
  • myinit_d.tgz - to run web-server my way ;) - with newer fw (0.4.2.2<), you don't need this
  • my_apache2.conf - modified apache2 configuration (to serve HTTPS, and rewrite URLs)
  • S00user-script - to prepare the apache modifications
  • S99user-script - to bind the php file in the right place
  • server.pem - certificate file for HTTPS (from the python dir in the previous fw)
If you already have S00user-script or S99user-script or hosts file, please do the proper changes.

Cheers,
Bagira :)

seeing this made me think of a way to include user configurations in apache.conf... i will have a look how this could be done in a reasonable way (for non-ext3).
i think https support can also be included and enabled by default in future versions.

Hi Bagira,
I am trying the new method with ext 4.2.1 for over an hour now and none of the proxies seem to work...
Any lead to get it working?

Hi,
I suggest you to try the selected proxy in Firefox with "FoxyProxy Standard", and go to http://www.pandora.com.
I use it with "Transp." type proxy. It's important, that the proxy dosn't insert page or prompt for "click to continue for the requested page".
You should also check that the https works fine: go to https://<IP of your WDTV>/. If there's no response the problem is with the apache's configuration.
My proxy-setting is now: 208.180.65.242:8080
