ah it looks like it was my fault. I've made some changes to apache (installed modphp and apc php cache) and it looks like it broke youtube user authorization for some unknown reason. Sorry for posting too early.

I think I have found a bug in the video format switching.
Or is this a technical restriction?
Search String: Vanguard Flash
The second video in the listing (at least from where I am) is Queen and Vanguard - Flash but on play YoutubeHD jumps directly to the next Video in the Listing. The cuplrit seems to be that YoutubeHD tries to play a format that isn't available:
Code: Select all

I re-checked it with youtube-dl and indeed this video is only available in fmt 5, 34 and 43 and not in fmt 18 (=> Low-Quality Standard Version, 360p MP4), doh!:
Code: Select all
youtube-dl --list-formats "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT2NLnKZaps"
[youtube] Setting language
[youtube] gT2NLnKZaps: Downloading video webpage
[youtube] gT2NLnKZaps: Downloading video info webpage
[youtube] gT2NLnKZaps: Extracting video information
Available formats:
34   :   flv   [360x640]
43   :   webm   [360x640]
5   :   flv   [240x400]

I don't know if it's related or just a coincidence but if I try to play the video without YoutubeHD enabled I'm getting "This video is restricted by the video content owner and it is not available on TV connected devices".
Why does YoutubeHD choose 18 when that format isn't available, is there a problem especially (480p FLV Youtube-Videos play fine) with Youtubes 360p FLVs?

Ok, I have now looked at the source, patched it temporarly to choose FLV 360P if there's no MP4 360P available and now I see that it's on purpose that youtubeHD chooses fmt 18: The WD TV doesn't like Youtube's 360P or 240P FLV in streamed format, only plays it from a local file. Just again the picky Medialogic-Player ;-(

I didn't have time to look into it, but it's still on my todo list.

If you have time, can you try out the same video with youtubesubscriptions and with a different quality? It should select a playable video, because it has a more sophisticated selection algorithm. If it works correctly, I'll backport that algorithm to youtubeHD.

Don't hurry, afaik there aren't that many Videos where no MP4 fmt, e.g. in this case 360P MP4, is available at all. In fact this was the first one I ever saw. At first I thought this is because the Video isn't syndicatable but on the other hand for example Dream Theater - The Dark Eternal Night In-Studio, which is also not allowed to play on a TVs/Mobile Devices, has more formats and also 360P MP4.

You're right, it plays successfully inside Youtube Subscriptions:
Code: Select all
2012.10.18 18:46:13 YTSubscriptions-proxy - _getYTVideo -> Unable to find url map for quality 22 (720P)
2012.10.18 18:46:13 YTSubscriptions-proxy - _getYTVideo -> Selected quality 34 (270P) instead

Hm, so my minimal patch to YoutubeHD was obviously not working as intended. For now I just copied the "$quality_map = array" from Youtube Subcriptions to YoutubeHD and it works.
btw: I don't use Youtube Subscriptions normally but I have a Youtube-Test-Account which I now had used. Nonetheless I have a tiny feature request: Print the yt-id in the log.
Forget it, I just saw that the id is contained in _logDebug and not log_Info.

Yup, you'd need to increase logging.

It's good that the yt-subscriptions proxy code works - I can easily port it over.

@bassdart: I integrated the changes in youtube-subscription's proxy into the youtubeHD proxy so that when a video does not have the quality you want (e.g. 1080P), it will automatically select the closest quality available (it will prefer a lower quality, and if there is none, it will select a higher quality). If it can't find any suitable qualities - it will select the first quality reported by youtube - which may be a format the wdtv can't play.

I will talk to recliq to update the proxy code. I have tested the changes with your video and it works fine.

Proxy updated in SVN, reboot or run getproxies to get the fixed file.
